There was a time that I really didn’t understand how important it was to be thankful. I honestly didn’t see the correlation between thanksgiving and answered prayer or success period. Philippians 4:7 says, “Be anxious (careful) for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, make your request known to God and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”.
Notice the underlined words. Showing gratitude to God while waiting for the answer to prayer keeps our minds stayed on Him. You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because He trusts in You.
The Word is right! Another translation of Philippians 4:6 says Do not fret or have anxiety about anything… You may wonder How can I not fret, the bill is due tomorrow. You can not because God’s word says not to do it. Open your mouth and thank Him for making a way for the bill to be paid. Being thankful shows that we trust God.
Therefore, by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. When we offer praise and thanksgiving we are keeping evil words off our lips. We are to refrain from speaking evil. Evil is simply negativity. Most times an unthankful person is just a negative person. Everything looks grim and hopeless.
Thanksgiving from our own lips changes this. Thanksgiving on our lips goes to our hearts and waters our faith in God (which is a seed). Our faith grows and we see full manifestation of the promise God has for us. Don’t believe the lie that you can’t be thankful in the midst of trials or disappointments. The Bible says in everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (I Thess. 5:18). “In” is a key word. Notice verse 17, Pray without ceasing. Here is a clue to answered prayer. Be thankful. Keep praying and believing with thanksgiving. We can do that. Everything that has breath can praise the Lord! Thank God for the answer before it comes!
